Lindsey Barron Series Volumes 1-8

The Lindsey Barron Series is the US answer to Harry Potter.  A hundred years ago, wizards and witches finally came out, openly working their spells, accepted by those who have no such skills. Around the country, magic schools were established, where the students go to learn both their traditional subjects and also magic. When they graduate, they have a high school diploma as well as mastery of much magic. Set in our future, now twelve years old, Lindsey discovers that she has been given a full scholarship to Bradbury’s School of Magic, somewhere near Telluride, Colorado. Her father, though she did not know it, was a famous wizard, primarily responsible for capturing the incredibly evil wizard known as Dominus Malefic, some fifteen years ago. Now Dominus has escaped and the action begins!

Volume 1: The Rod of the Apocalypse

Set in our future, now twelve years old, Lindsey discovers that she has been given a full scholarship to Bradbury’s School of Magic. Her father, who was a famous wizard, died in an accident when she was only five. He was primarily responsible for capturing the incredibly evil wizard known as Dominus Malefic, some fifteen years ago. Living in a tiny town called Plano, she and her rancher mother, Lena, squeaked out a bare existence. Discovering that the strange things she has been doing for years is actually magical spells, she’s off to school to learn all about magic, where the big extra activities are track and soccer. Lindsey joins both teams. The head of the school, Governor Alister Broadwell, has hidden an ancient magical relic on the school grounds, because the imprisoned wizard, Dominus, has escaped and subsequently freed his henchmen, called Death Stalkers. Dominus greatly desires this ancient rod, for with it, he can control and dominate the entire world. As Lindsey makes many new friends, she also gets captured by Dominus. Disguised as Lindsey, Dominus steals the rod. Now Lindsey must get free and also retrieve the rod. Read Sample Volume 1 Chapter 1.

Volume 2: The Board of Governors

Now in her second year at Bradbury’s School of Magic, Lindsey becomes involved in a sinister plot. Someone is conducting a lengthy series of attacks upon the students and the school. From blowing up the stadium stands, to attacking her school bus, someone is trying to harm them. Yet, as the plot unfolds, her friend, Pam, discovers that it is really an attempt by Dominus to have Governor Alister disgraced and forced to relinquish his position as the leader of the school. During the school year, Lindsey becomes more and more a Dispeller, like her father was, one who can cancel an attacking wizard’s spells, saving her friends from harm. Pam becomes a Sleuth, one who can solve mysteries others cannot. Amanda becomes a Tracker, one who can see the faint magical energy lines left by spell casting. Yet, it takes the combined skills of everyone, especially Pam, to stop the Mad Bomber and keep Alister from being fired. Read Sample Volume 2 Chapter 2.

Volume 3: The Crown of Moses

Now in her third year at Bradbury’s School of Magic, a strange hurricane becomes stalled for months over south Texas, wreaking havoc. Mountains of snow plague Colorado, but massive flooding forces massive evacuations in Texas. The hurricane is being held in place by a recently discovered artifact, the Crown of Moses, which has been stolen by Dominus. In her attempts to unravel the mess, Pam discovers the location of Dominus and the Crown. However, Lindsey, Pam, and Ashley are captured and tortured. Lindsey now faces Dominus once more, as his men capture her and her friends. Somehow she must get free. Later, Dominus captures Governor Alister, threatening to drown him. Lindsey’s new adopted sister, Ashley Stokes proves her mettle as a Diviner, discovering that he has captured Alister and roughly where he is being held. Volume 4: Dominus for President

This year, Bradbury’s is hosting foreign exchange students from the Utrecht School of Magic, the Netherlands. One of the students is physically like Ashley, and Lindsey works with both Ashley and Jeannette to regenerate their arms, giving them back their quality of life. Dominus continues his bid for the President of the United States. He begins handing out valuable golden rings to his ardent supporters, well over a million of them. During their day trip in Telluride, Pam leads them to a house which is actually a secret place where Dominus is keeping his tortured, female toys, as he calls them. Finding these young women so badly mistreated, Lindsey rescues them and sees that they are fully healed. Dominus loses his bid for president, but secretly activates the millions of rings he has given out. These rings embed themselves into the wearer’s fingers and cannot be removed. Via the rings, Dominus can now force the wearer to do what he chooses. One of the rings is now worn by the newly elected President, Missy Snow. Her first action is to grant Dominus and his Death Stalkers a full pardon for all past crimes, making Dominus now a model citizen! Many complications begin to arise and Lindsey is invited to the Presidential Inaugrual Ball, where she again faces Dominus. Read Sample Volume 4 Chapter 1.

Volume 5: The National Health Care Program

Now that Dominus has gotten the President under his control, he sets off on gaining control of the country, via the National Health Care Program of the President. Who could be against the idea of such a program? Under the program, pills are dispensed which does indeed create totally healthy individuals with no criminal tendencies. Others call these people automatons or zombies. Lindsey and friends help spoil the murdering of the wife of Dominus and begin to find out the secrets behind these pills and the program. As they get too close to Dominus, he then kidnaps Lindsey and Ashley, fixing up a diabolical torture that he calculates will keep them out of his affairs. Read Sample Volume 5 Chapter 2.

Volume 6: States Justice

The National Health Care program threatens Civil War between the President and the Western States. As Dominus spreads his control over more states, others begin fighting back. Civil War nearly breaks out before Lindsey and crew can finally take action. They discover the truth behind Dominus Malefic and set about finding someway to stop him. Perhaps the top power magic spells will give them a way. Then Alister Broadwell dies, leaving the school in a mess. Lindsey and friends press onwards to find a way to stop Dominus. At least they realize that higher power spells will not be the answer. They must come up with an alternative and quickly as war breaks out between wizards and normals. Lindsey Barron and her friends, the Rodents, have brought an end to the evil wizard Dominus Malefic and his Death Stalkers. Dominus was subsequently assassinated. Peace came to the world, but it was short-lived.

An ardent Dominus supporter dug up his body, attempting to resurrect him from the dead or to clone him. The action nearly worked. His body is now that of a twelve year old girl! With no other options remaining, she adopts the name of Monica Nicole Black. She goes to the St. Louis School of Magic as the niece of Thaddeus Black, where she initially hopes to learn the really power spells that as Dominus she didn’t know. She’s put in Red Hall and befriends four other girls. Together, they set new school records for Red Hall. Once graduated, they set up a magic shop. Slowly, her viewpoint changes.

However, other Dominus supporters have made bargains with demons and devils in hopes of getting Dominus back, as well as his Golden Path. Their plans backfire, and demons flood into the world in a grand attempt to conquer Earth. Monica’s world is turned upside down, but she must fight demons and must prove to Lindsey Barron and others that she had indeed changed for the better, to say nothing of making amends for her many evil deeds in the past.

Volume 8: Down the Dragon Hole

The powerful demons who escaped the dragnet nine years ago have been following succubus Gisella’s Grand Plan to conquer the Earth, remaining hidden all those years. Since no demons were sighted for so long, witch Monica Nicole Black, the Demon Slayer, has lost all credence. The demons have secretly and slowly infiltrated key positions in the US government, funneling modern weapons into their ever-increasing demon army. Gisella launches her takeover of the world with the bombing of Lambert Field, St. Louis. She has an ulterior motive: get witch Monica involved so the demons can eliminate her, their only serious threat. In order to do that, the demons maneuver the US President to order Monica to join the top US World Investigation Team, three norms who have a stellar case closing record.

By making Monica work with normals to solve the Lambert Field bombing, the demons believe they can trap her without all her other magic user friends interfering, especially since Monica hates norms. Gisella’s plan works. However, the Dr. Menninger clone has plans of his own. True, he developed the biological genetic agent that Gisella needs to horribly mutate humans, but he also develops his own variations, designed to genetically alter men and women, specifically Germans. He hasn’t given up his goal of global domination formulated in the mid-1940’s. Pretending to assist Gisella’s army of demons and jihadists swarming out of Iran, he uses them for his own purposes, the establishment of his Fourth Reich, his Schutzstaffel.

If demons followed orders, this time, they could easily conquer the world. But demons seldom do so, each figuring they know better what to do. Even so, with Monica taken out, the demons begin their long-planned conquest, and Dr. Menninger establishes his new Reich in Germany, but with hideous effects, knocking out Gisella’s Grand Plan. Monica will need to enlist the aid of Bradbury’s School of Magic and many other wizards and witches if she has any hope to handle the demons.
